Early Intervention

(0-3 Years Old)

We offer assessment and therapy services for little ones who are showing delay or disordered speech and/or language acquisition. Our principal speech pathologist, Emily Meagher, is a certified Hanen practitioner, has pursued extensive training in paediatric feeding supports and has a clinical interest in early language facilitation. Our staff are passionate about educating parents and caregivers on how they can best support and enrich their child's language learning environments and incorporate these language building opportunities into their every day interactions.

Pre Kindy

(3-4 Years Old)

Children may be demonstrating signs of delayed or disordered speech and language prior to commencing school - with referrals often initiated in the community by child health nurses, daycare workers and parents/caregivers. It's important that their skills and difficulties be assessed and supported to ensure they're given the best opportunities for learning and in forming relationships with peers.

School Aged

Learning for Life offers services for school aged children within the areas of expressive and receptive language, speech and literacy. We pride ourselves on our ability to support each child holistically and individually to ensure that their unique goals are supported and achieved. We work closely with school staff and families to encourage generalisation of their child/ren's newly acquired skills to their beyond clinic enviornments.

Stuttering

Stuttering [also known as dysfluency] is a disorder of fluency that can range from very mild to profound. Stuttering can affect children's ability to express themselves with both familiar and unfamiliar persons and may impact on their ability to participate in school or social interactions. Early intervention is always encouraged - so if you have concerns over your little one's ability to express themselves fluently and would like to discuss it with one of our speech pathologists - please call or email the clinic. Learning for Life offers intervention and support for all ages of children who stutter.

If you would like to learn or know more about stuttering - have a look at the Stuttering Foundation's website who offer a wealth of information and guidance. It is available at: https://www.stutteringhelp.org/faq.

Literacy

The need for phonological awareness and literacy support has become more emergent and prevalent over recent years. This may be evident in a child's difficult to identify, segment, blend and/or manipulate sounds within words, difficulties in reading and/or spelling and difficulties in extracting meaning from written content. Our Learning for Life therapists are passionate about providing evidence based and engaging interventions that will foster a greater sense of confidence and enjoyment in reading and writing. Our therapists Emily Meagher and Amber Tognela are both accredited Sounds~Write practitioners and adore working with children and their families to develop a love of reading and writing.
